Fitnah is not a small word and it is not a light matter. It is not harmless disagreement, casual drama or ordinary tension between people. Fitnah is a fire. When it is lit among Muslims, it burns trust, Brotherhood, sincerity, mercy and peace. When it enters the masjid, its evil becomes even more dangerous, because it corrupts the very place where hearts are supposed to be purified.
The Masjid is a place of worship, but fitnah turns it into a place of suspicion. The Masjid is a place of unity, but fitnah turns it into a place of factions. The Masjid is a place of humility, but fitnah gives the arrogant a stage. The Masjid is a place of remembrance, but fitnah fills tongues with gossip. The Masjid is a place where Muslims stand shoulder to shoulder, but fitnah makes hearts stand against one another.
This is why the one who brings fitnah into the House of Allah is not committing a minor social mistake. He is bringing poison into a sacred space. He is carrying fire into a House built for light. He is dragging the filth of ego, hatred, envy and personal politics into a place that should be protected from such corruption.
Fitnah does not always begin loudly. Sometimes it begins with a whisper. A small comment. A raised eyebrow. A private complaint. A hidden accusation. A story repeated without verification. A suspicion dressed as concern. A person saying, “I am not trying to cause problems, but…” Then the poison spreads. One person hears it, then another. Hearts begin to change. Trust begins to weaken. People begin looking at each other differently. The Masjid atmosphere becomes heavy and Shayṭān finds a door.
This is how many fires begin.
Not with flames everyone can see, but with sparks people ignored.
A troublemaker knows how to use small sparks. He knows how to plant doubt without taking responsibility. He says enough to poison the heart, but not enough to be held accountable. He hints. He suggests. He questions intentions. He says, “People are saying…” when perhaps only he is saying it. He says, “I heard something…” without caring whether it is true. He says, “Be careful of that person…” while pretending to protect others. He says, “I only want what is best for the Masjid…” while spreading suspicion in the Masjid.
